I’ve always liked the small plants. These were not more than three inches tall. Flowers arranged in squares, those squares ranked into squares. How strange. The plant lives in a hot, sunny meadow in the 34667.

..could be species caroliniana or tinctora according to the Atlas of Florida Vascular Plants. It was spectacular by the side of the pond at Lake Rodgers Park, Hillsborough Co, Fl. I am told it is commonly called Redroot. Growing in the wet sand at it’s feet were tiny carnivorous Sundews (Drosera).

I am grateful for the museum – quality restoration of Grand Central and that I saw the great east-facing windows that were covered by a billboard for most of my life! And for the brightness of the sandstone and the ceiling mural, cleaned of cigarette smoke.

each time I revisit the photos from my leave they portray a place that is less real and more dreamlike, it’s harshness softened to the warmly ethereal. Chile contrasts more or less completely with my everyday life.

Standing in my driveway at a distance of 121 miles from The Cape you can see the shuttles depart. Here is my photo of a rare night launch. A moment after this picture was taken the view was lost in the pool of moonlight.

In the Chilean summer herders lead their animals to high pastures beyond 10,000 feet. It is a place where storms can be sudden and fierce. A herder built his summer shelter under a large stone.
